Gruber, Michael

Michael grew up with Dachshunds. He got a Golden Retriever in 1986, from the famous Swiss Kennel "Vimy" of the late Mrs. Geo Wettstein.

Nearly two years later he "discovered" the Flatcoat, a very unknown and rare breed in our country at that time. In August 1991 he got his first own Flatcoat puppy out of Mrs. Sarah Whittaker’s kennel Bramatha. With him the fascination of showing dogs started.

In 1994, Michael had his first own bred litter under the affix “Plainfire’s”. Today in 2023 with his partner Antonio, they are breeding in the 8th generation. They are proud to show their dogs in Switzerland and other European countries.

There are more than 30 Plainfire’s champions so far, and several Plainfire’s Swiss Show Top and Opposite Sex winners in the past few years. Most of their dogs have Scottish and/or Scandinavian lines behind. The quality of these dogs improved the one in our country a lot.

Michael has been member of the Swiss Retriever Club over 20 years, he was chairman of the Swiss Retriever Club Show Commission from 1996 until 2000, and from 2016 to 2022 he has been Chairman of the Swiss Retriever Club.

Also since 2016 he is judge for all six Retriever breeds and since 2021 FCI Group 8 judge. The more he feels honoured to be guest in Geneva at the Worlddogshow 2023 and have the privilege to judge “his breed”.
