König, Martin

As an official vet, animals have been a part of Martin’s life from the moment he was born in 1955.

At the age of 7 years, he started breeding rabbits, chickens, ducks and sheep. His parents and grandparents had Swiss Cattle Dogs on the farm.

His first Irish terrier, a female, was best junior in 1983 at the Bern (the capital of Switzerland) dog show, in honor of the centenary of the Swiss Kennelclub (SKG). One year later he started breeding, and she got her first litter with 6 puppies. Altogether, 13 female Irish terriers, Norwich terriers and Saint Bernhards gave birth to 129 Kingsbreed puppies.

In 1994 Martin was confirmed by the Swiss Kennelclub (SKG) as a judge of breed, the first breed was the Scottish terrier, 6 other breeds of terriers followed (all N and all S) and Jack and Parson Russell terrier, since 2016 he has been chairman of the RTC-CH.

In the FCI group 2 he is a judge for Saint Bernards, Continental Bulldogs and all the 3 breeds of the Swiss Mountain- and Cattledogs double coat (Stockhaar). Since 2019, he has been approved as a group judge 1 Sheepdogs and Cattledogs.

Martin wrote a book about the typical gait and double handling of Sheepdogs and Cattledogs (Rassespezifisches Vorführen in der FCI Gruppe 1 Hüte- und Treibhunde, 99 pages A4).

So far he has judged in 18 European countries, including the National Breeding Show N.E. of Scottish Terrier in France, twice at the WUSB show in Italy and Finland, and in 2014 and 2017 twice at the Russian National Winner Show in Moscow for the White Swiss Shepherd Dog.

He feels honored to be invited to judge the Appenzell Cattle Dog and the Great Swiss Mountain Dog at the WDS 2023 in Geneva, which was his workplace for 12 years, there he feels at home, too.
